Outdoor Furniture

Basic Cleaning:

  • For everyday cleaning we recommend a gentle brush or damp cloth.
  • For bigger cleans you can use a hose to rinse your teak furniture, helping to remove surface dirt and dust. *If your teak furniture has cushions, it is recommended to remove them prior to rinsing the wooden components, and allow the surface to dry prior to putting them back.

Maintaining Original Color:

  • To retain the original finished color of your teak, periodically apply a teak cleaner and protectant. Follow the instructions of the teak cleaner/protectant, which sometimes will include a light sanding of the piece before applying. These products will penetrate the wood, nourish it, and help maintain/restore its original appearance.
  • If you plan to leave your teak furniture and cushions outdoors year-round, we highly recommend you use high-quality outdoor furniture covers. This will protect them from the elements and minimize aging.

Weathering & Climate Impact:

  • Natural teak weathers over time, and this process varies depending on climate, exposure to the elements, and the level of care and maintenance.
  • Teak wood expands and contracts with changes in climate, which can result in hairline cracks in the assembly joints or the grain of the wood. These do not affect the structural integrity of the furniture.
  • If storing your furniture indoors, place it in a watertight garage or storage shed. Avoid moving teak furniture directly from the garden into a heated indoor room, as sharp differences in temperature and humidity can cause the wood to split.
  • Teak's density and high oil content naturally prevent rotting and provide resistance to fungus and most wood-boring pests. The natural oils in teak may surface due to rain and humidity, appearing like water stains.

Cushion Care & Maintenance:

  • The cushion covers are crafted from water-repellent and UV resistant materials. However, exposure to rain or sprinklers may cause water to seep through the seams. To maintain their quality, it's best to keep the cushions covered or store them indoors when not in use. If your cushions become soaked with water, it is recommended to tip the cushions zipper-side down, unzipped, to ensure all water drains.
  • For everyday stains, use a mild outdoor fabric cleaner with warm water and a clean absorbent cloth. Rinse thoroughly and tip the cushions zipper-side down, unzipped, to ensure all water drains.
